Abstract
THIS CONTRIBUTION AI MS AT DEPICTING THE DYNAMICS OF CURRENT MIGRATION CRISIS, INSISTING ON THE EU` S RESPONSE TO AN EVE R CHANGING CLIMATE O F INSTABILITY IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AND TH E AEGEAN SEA. BESIDE S DESCRIBING THE ACT IONS TAKEN BY THE EU TO CONTAIN THE M ASSIVE WAVES OF REFU GEES AND ASYLUM SEEK ERS, THE ARTICLE ALS O IDENTIFIES THE GAPS WITHIN THE COLLABORA TION AMONG EU MEMBER STATES AND OTHER REGIONAL PARTNERS. THE SCHENGEN AREA, A S WELL AS THE AREA F OR LIBERTY, SECURITY AND JUSTICE HAD TO FORGE SOLUTIONS IN ORDER TO LIMIT TH E CONSEQUENCES OF IR REGULAR MIGRATION CAUSING A GREAT DEAL OF PRESSURE UPON THE POLITICAL LEADERS OF THE STATES DIRECTLY ON THE PATH OF THE T WO MAJOR ROUTES OF A CCESS TO EUROPE. THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS IS EXPENDING ITS ARE AS OF CONTROL IN AN ATTEMP T TO BUILD A COMMON IDENTITY, THI S BEING A TEST TO TH E COMMON FOREIGN AND SECURITY POLICY. IN ORDER TO HAVE A BETT ER APPROACH TO BORDE R CONTROL THE EU INS TITUTIONS AND MEMBER STATES MUST R EACH A COMMON GROUND IN TERMS OF TACKLING THE ROOD CAUSE FOR THESE CONFLICTS, AS WELL AS GAINING A LONG TERM AUTHONOMOU S STRATEGIC AND OPERATIONAL IDENTITY , THAT ALLOWS THEM T O IMPOSE THE CORE VA LUES ALL DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES SHARE AND PROTECT.
