THE ROLE OF ACTIVE LISTENING IN THE ACQUISITION OF SECOND LANGUAGES

THE ACQUISITION OF FOREIGN / SECOND LANGUAGES IS A COMPLEX PROCESS AND INVOLVES A GREAT DEAL OF FACTORS, WHI CH BOTH EDUCATORS AN D STUDENTS SHOULD TA KE INTO ACCOUNT. NOT ONLY THE INFORMATION (WHAT WE TEACH) AND THE TEACHING METHODS (HOW WE TEACH) COUNT, BUT ALSO OTHER ASPEC TS, SUCH AS THE LEAR NING ENVIRONMENT. MO RE PRECISELY, ALONG WITH THE CONTENTS AND SKI LLS THAT ONE SHOULD ACQUIRE IN ORDER TO BE AN EFFICIENT L2 U SER, TEACHER’S ATTITUDE P LAYS AN IMPORTANT RO LE IN THIS PROCESS. A SUPPORTIVE AND POSITIVE TEACHER, THE STRESS -FREE LEARNING ENVIRO NMENT COULD EASE THE ACQUISITION OF L2 AN D INCREASE STUDENTS’ C OMMUNICATION AND LIN GUISTIC SKILLS. THE ACTIVE LISTENING COU LD BE EFFICIENT IN CLASS IN MANY WAYS: ESTABLISHING RELATIONSHIPS, SOLVING PROBLEMS, PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH CONFID ENCE, DEVELOPING A W IDE RANGE OF SKILLS, ERROR CORRECTION, ASSESSMENT, FEEDBACK.
