Abstract
THE MEDITERRANEAN CRISES CAUSED BY MASSIVE IMMIGRATION IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, GIVEN THE FACT THAT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE DYING IN THE EURO -MEDITERRANEAN REGION EVERY YEAR. THIS RESEARCH AIMS TO EMPHASIZE THE AMPLITUDE OF THE PROBLEM BY ANA LYZING THE LAMPEDUSA TRAGEDY FROM 3 RD OF OCTOBER 2013 AND THE EUROPEAN UNION’S RESPONSE. THE RESULTS OF THIS PAPER SHOW THAT IT IS MANDATORY FOR THE EUROPEAN UNION TO ELABORATE A COMMON POLICY FOR MIGRATION AND ASYLUM AND TO IMPLEMENT A SYSTEM OF PROPORTIO NAL DISTRIBUTION OF MIGRANTS BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN UNION’S MEMBER STATES.
