Abstract
CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE PREDISPOSES TO DEVELOPMENT OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE, BECAUSE OF THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES THAT OCCURS DUE TO AN ABNORMAL STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL HEART, SUCH AS CHRONIC HYPOXIA AND ANOMALIES IN THE RENAL BLOOD FLOW. ALSO, RE NAL FUNCTION IS AFFECTED NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES, BUT ALSO BY THE SURGICAL C ORRECTION OF THE HEART ANOMALY. CURRENT STUDIES NOTICED THAT CRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE HAS A HIGHER INCIDENCE IN PATIENTS WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE. DATA FROM LITERATURE SUGGEST THAT 30 TO 50% OF PATIENTS WITH CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE WILL PRESENT RENAL DYSFUNCTION.
