ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE PURE PNEUMATIC MOTOR USED ON COMPRESSED AIR CARS

Abstract
THE AIR CAR INTRODUC ED IN THIS PAPER IS A VEHICLE THAT IMITA TES THE SIMPLE OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF A THREE WHEELS BICYCLE. THE MOTOR IS COMPOSED OF TWO SIMPLE PNEUMATIC PISTONS (32 MM AND 63 MM AND T HE STROKE IS 320 MM) , WHICH ARE CONTROLL ED BY MECHANICAL VALVES . NO ELECTRONIC DEVI CES ARE USED. THE VE HICLE CAN OPERATE IN TWO MODES: "SAVING ENERGY MOD E" AND "SPEED MODE". IN ORDER TO INNOVATE , WE USE A HIGH-PERFORMANCE SHIMANO GEARBOX, AND ALSO A MODERN STRUCTURE WIT H HIGH - RIGIDITY. THE G AS BOTTLE IS ISOLATE D BY A 3 MM THICKNES S ALUMINIUM SHEET, A ND THUS PROTECTING THE DRIVE R. THE ENGINE IS PRO VIDED WITH A PROFESS IONAL SHIFTER THAT I S QUITE A TECHNICAL CH ALLENGE. THE FIRST O BJECTIF OF THE PROJE CT IS TO BUILD AN EFFICIENT PNEUMATIC MOTOR WI TH A SIMPLE DESIGN, TAKING INTO CONSIDER ATION THE CONSTRAINTS OF THE C OMPETITION IN CASE: THE SPONSORS IMPOSE TO THE COMPETITORS T O USE JUST THEIR RANGE OF PNEUMATICAL COMPO NENTS. ANOTHER IMPOR TANT OBJECTIF IS TO MANUFACTURE THE AIR CAR USING PROPULSED JUST BY “LINEAR MOVEMEN T”, WHICH MEANS PNEUMATIC PISTONS UTILIZATION. REGARDING THE CONTROL AND CO MAND OF THE ENGINE, IT CAN BE REALIZED BOTH BY PNEUMATIC VALVES AND DISTRIBUTORS AND BY PLC’S. PNEUMOBIL COMPETITION IS A TOUGH COMPETITION, THEREFORE IN ORDER TO SUCCESFULLY PARTICIPATE, THE TEAM OF UNIVERSI TY POLITEHNICA OF BU CHAREST CHOSE A PURE PNEUMATIC MOTOR, THUS AVOIDING THE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS OF AN ELECTRO-PNEUMATIC MOTOR.
